BOARD WARNS RESIDENTS AFTER DOG ATTACK

Last Wednesday, January 11th, at the bottom of the trail on Vista Del Rio Way, two off-leash pit bulls attacked and killed a smaller dog being walked by a man who had his infant strapped to him.

Both pit bulls were contained after the attack and later picked up by San Diego Humane Society officers.  The small dog that was attacked was rushed to the emergency vet in Carlsbad, but passed away before arriving.  A police report and a report with San Diego Humane Society has been made, and one of the pit bulls has already been euthanized.

Neither of the two attacking dogs had a collar or microchip, and their ownership is currently under investigation.

The Board therefore strongly cautions homeowners to be aware of the dangers of off-leash dogs as well as of the coyote(s) recently spotted within our community.

Furthermore, the Board would remind pet owners of their responsibilities as detailed in our CC&Rs;  of the punitive actions available to the Board for any animal it considers a nuisance;  and of the legal and financial liability pet owners incur when their animals are off-leash or otherwise uncontrolled.

RECENT MAILBOX VANDALISM AND MAIL THEFT

Our community (as well as others in the Oceanside area) have lately become a target of mailbox vandalism as well as mail theft.  The perpetrators are prying open the back of the mailbox clusters with a tool (such as a crowbar) to expose all the mailboxes in order to steal mail.

Due to the dollar amount it costs to replace these clusters (around $5K per mailbox cluster), felony vandalism charges have been filed with Oceanside Police Department.  Mail Theft is a federal offense and needs to be filed by the individual victim.

The association is working as quickly as possible to replace any mailbox clusters that have been vandalized and is tasking our security company to conduct extra patrols to deter this activity.  However this not enough.

The association is asking the help of all owners and residents to report immediately to OPD when you observe that a mailbox has been broken into and/or your mail has been stolen.  Additionally we are asking that any suspicious activity be reported to OPD and/or the security company.  The non-emergency phone number for OPD is (760) 435-4900 and the phone number for our Security Company (North Coast Patrol) is (760) 796-4131.

If you see a crime in-progress (such as someone breaking into a mailbox) please call 9-1-1!

There are additional things that you can do to make sure you do not fall victim to mail theft.  One of the easiest things you can do is check and remove the contents of your mailbox daily.  If your mailbox has been broken into, you can have the post office hold your mail and not deliver to the mailbox (until the replacements are installed).  If there are lighting issues near your mailbox, please report to management or file a work order request through the website so the association can fix the lighting.

Again, the association is working as quickly as possible to replace any mailboxes and is exploring other options to harden the community against crime.  However, it is going to take the community coming together to be eyes and ears, and report to the authorities when suspicious activity and crime is occurring to stop this from continuing.

Thank You for your assistance, and let’s come together to stop crime in Quail Ridge!

VOLUNTEER POOL MONITORS NEEDED

In order to open our Pool Areas, the Quail Ridge Board of Directors is looking for volunteers to act as Pool Monitors.
