DROUGHT CONTINUES TO RAVAGE STATE BUT NEW TIPS MAY HELP

According to CA.GOV, "The current drought has resulted in observations of new, record-high temperatures and record low snowpack for California. Five of the lowest 10 snowpacks on record have occurred in the last decade, including the past four years." And according to California State Climatologist Michael Anderson, there's only about a 50/50 chance that the coming El Nino will help alleviate the drought.

The good news however is that Californians surpassed June’s conservation rate and reduced water use by 31.3 percent during July, exceeding Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr.’s 25 percent mandate for a second consecutive month!

Water conservation works and is vital to our future, so here are some further water saving tips that could prove useful:

SIX CANDIDATES VIE FOR TWO SEATS AS VOTING DEADLINE APPROACHES

This year's Board Election is truly heating up, with only three weeks left before the showdown at the Quail Ridge Annual Meeting on Aug. 18th.

Because Quail Ridge Board Members serve a two-year term, only two seats are up for reelection this year. However six candidates have formally announced their candidacy, and "write-in" candidates are also allowed. As a result this year's Quail Ridge Annual Meeting should prove quite exciting!

Adding to the tension is the fact that 192 votes are needed to reach quorum, and at press only  83  113 have been received. So don't forget to vote!

Ballots must be delivered by mail or in person to Curtis Management on or before Aug. 17th. However, ballots will be accepted at the beginning of the Annual Meeting, after which time the polls will be closed, the votes tallied, and the lucky winners announced!

IMPORTANT DROUGHT UPDATE FOR QUAIL RIDGE RESIDENTS!

On April 1, 2015, California Governor Jerry Brown issued an executive order requiring a mandatory reduction in water use statewide. For the first time in state history, cities and towns across California will have to cut their water use by 25 percent!

So here are five great resources to help you understand what is happening with the drought, how this impacts you, and how you can save more water.

  1. Current Drought Response Memo from the Oceanside Water Utilities Department
  2. FREE WaterSmart Checkup to help you learn where you can save water
  3. Oceanside's water conservation webpage, www.savewateroceanside.com
  4. Oceanside's Ways to Save Water webpage
  5. SoCal WaterSmart's Turf Removal Rebate Program, which apparently pays $2 per sq. ft. of grass removed

All good things must come to an end

Our annual open house was held on December 7th. About 40 to 50 residents showed up for a generous spread of goodies and a chance to finally meet their neighbors and board members. A great time was had by all!

Ideas for next year include hiring the In-n-Out truck for fresh, hot fries & burgers cooked right in front of the clubhouse. Can't wait!
